About AquariumFertilizer.com I'm Alan Kaufmann and my wife Julia and I live in Napa , California . Many years ago, I returned to a hobby that I had enjoyed in my childhood – keeping fish tanks. As my interest grew, I joined a very old fish club, the San Francisco Aquarium Society (SFAS), associated with San Francisco 's Steinhart Aquarium. Since I began keeping fish tanks, I have always wanted my tanks to look as natural as possible. Towards that end, I decided to forgo the bubbling treasurer chests in favor of live plants. At that time, acquiring aquatic plants was a real hit-or-miss proposition. I can still remember my dismay and frustration when I realized that my beautiful aquatic palm trees were actually terrestrial corn plants! About 10 years ago, about a dozen members of the SFAS met in a living room where we started the San Francisco Bay Area Aquatic Plant Society (SFBAAPS). Over time, the club has become a fantastic resource for information about growing of many types of aquatic plants. Since those early days, we have grown from 12 members to over 300! Six years ago, Greg Watson started this web site to provide an inexpensive way for aquarists to get fertilizer for their plants. It was his way of giving back to the hobby. As awareness of this site as a unique resource has grown in the planted aquarium community, the amount of time required to provide this service has also increased. Greg, having other commitments, has decided to turn over operation of this site to us. Julia and I have undertaken responsibility to continue the excellent service that Greg has provided for so many years. Along with Tom Barr, Greg has graciously agreed to stay on as a consultant.
